If you are at a particular time in life – perhaps midlife or younger with the “sandwiched family responsibilities” or older and getting ready to retire, we are here for you. No matter where you are, it is very likely that the inner tug of Why Am I Here? Or What Am I Doing? And Why??? – may be calling you to pause and reassess.
And you know what? You are exactly where you are meant to be in adult development. We do not often think about that because our society is focused on the young, never considering that we continue to grow, develop and evolve throughout time.
Did you know that by the time there is a physical manifestation of illness or lack of wellness, that one has not listened to the tug of the heartstrings – the cry for truly living out one’s purpose and passion. But who ever gave us that opportunity. Often our lives are scripted out for us – perhaps traditional roles, family expectations, societal influences, life circumstances – but when you finally reach the place in life where you are feeling unsatisfied, lethargic, melancholy or frankly depressed, it is time to re-evaluate your trajectory.
I often suggest to clients to think back of the hobbies they enjoyed when younger. What were they and how did they feel while doing them? The “feeling” is very important because if you are on the right track, there will be an energizing impact – I liken this to what charges and drains your battery? Begin to take note and look at current circumstances.
Is it time for a career change? Or less dramatically, is there a way to bring in more of these activities into one’s life? Assess your unique gifts and search for ways to share them with others. Keep a journal so that you can tap into your feelings – all of them – fear, excitement, guilt, self-sabotage etc
